HC Deb 05 December 1984 vol 69 cc191-2W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what have been the trends in wages paid since 1979 to young men and young women, respectively; and what has been the trend in unemployment for these categories over the same period.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Figures of the average gross weekly earnings of full-time male and female employees working a full week and aged under 18 years are published regularly for each April in tables 10 and 11 of the report, "New Earnings Survey", part A. Copies of the reports from 1979 to 1984 inclusive are available in the Library.

Information on unemployment analysed by age and sex is also available in the Library. However, current figures cannot be compared directly with those for 1979 mainly because of the change from the registrant-based to the claimant-based unemployment count in October 1982.
