asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what would have been the gross weekly income required on 1 April to maintain the real disposable income of a single person, taking into account payment of tax, national insurance and 5 per cent. of earnings as superannuation contributions who on 1 April 1969 earned (a) £25, (b) £30, (c) £35, (d) £40, (e) £45, (f) £50, (g) £60, (h)£70, (i)£80, (j) £90, (k) £100, (l) £125, (m) £150, (n) £175, (o) £200, (p) £225 and (q) £250 per week;

(2) what would have been the gross weekly income required on 1 April to maintain the real disposable income of a married man with two children under 11 years of age, taking into account payment of tax, national insurance and 5 per cent. of earnings as superannuation contributions, and taking into account receipt of child benefit, who on 1 April 1969 earned (a) £25, (b) £30, (c) £35, (d) £40, (e) £45, (f) £50, (g) £60, (h) £70, (i) £80, (j) £90, (k) £100, (l) £125, (m) £150, (n) £175, (o) £200, (p) £225 and (q) £250 per week.

Average male gross earnings (all occupations) in April 1984 were about 6.5 times higher than in April 1969.
