asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many new jobs have been created in Scotland in the past 12 months.

Comprehensive information on new jobs created is not available. However, over 14,500 new jobs have been associated with offers of selective financial assistance under section 7 of the Industrial Development Act 1982 for projects in Scotland during the past year. It is also encouraging that in the year to June 1984 the net total of employees in employment in Scotland is estimated to have increased by 15,000.
