HC Deb 05 December 1984 vol 69 cc207-8W
22. Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will investigate the situation in the fish processing industry, particularly in the Banff and Buchan constituency, and take steps to grant temporary financial aid in order to prevent further losses of employment in that industry.

Mr. John MacKay

My right hon. Friend is aware that reduced supplies of white fish have been causing difficulties for the fish processing industry. He has no plans to provide financial aid, but so as to ease the supply situation he has urged the European Commission in its negotiations with Norway, to seek the highest TACs justifiable for the main North sea stocks in 1985.
