HC Deb 05 December 1984 vol 69 c210W
36. Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the use of composite classes in the Scottish educational system.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Composite classes have long been a feature of the Scottish educational system. Such classes are not inherently unsound educationally, so long as they are formed with due regard for the needs of the pupils concerned and provided the work of each class is adapted to the abilities of individual pupils through, for example, the use of group and individual methods.
