§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proportion of the administrative expenses of his Department he estimates to be directly or indirectly attributable to duties which must be carried out by his Department as a result of membership of the European Economic Community.
§ Mr. Ian StewartWithin the Treasury the European Community group of divisions deal exclusively with Community matters. The administrative expenses of this group represented about 0.6 per cent. of the 1983–84 total. An allowance should also be made for the work of other groups concerned to a lesser extent with Community matters. This figure could not be calculated without disproportionate cost.
