§ Sir Keith JosephEighteen organisations and a number of individuals made comments on the White Paper "Teaching Quality". The Government are pursuing vigorously the policies which it outlined. Achievements to date include the promulgation of criteria for the approval of initial training courses for teachers, the establishment of a council for the accreditation of teacher education, and the introduction of grants to local education authorities for the further training of serving teachers in designated areas of national priority. Her Majesty's inspectors are now engaged in an extensive programme of visits to all teacher training institutions.
