§ Sir David Priceasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will institute an inquiry into the practice of osteopathy; and whether he will take steps for osteopathy to have a recognised place within the National Health Service.
§ Mr. John PattenWe see no reason to hold such an inquiry. There is nothing to prevent a doctor from providing alternative therapies, including osteopathy, for his patients if he has the skill and training to do so. Health authorities may make use of the services of osteopaths if this is recommended by a consultant and they are satisfied that it is an appropriate use of resources, given other priorities.
