HC Deb 04 December 1984 vol 69 c117W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if his Department has initiated any negotiations with the Commission of the European Communities with a view to introducing a better sampling and analysis regime for coliform bacteria.

Mr. Macfarlane

The Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution has recommended, in its tenth report, that the Government should initiate negotiations with the Commission of the European Communities with a view to introducing a better sampling and analysis procedure for coliform bacteria.

So far no action has been taken in respect of the Royal Commission's recommendation. This report is being studied and the Government's response will be published next month.
