HC Deb 04 December 1984 vol 69 c97W
Mr. Brandon-Bravo

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps he is taking in response to the report of an investigation by the Fair Employment Agency for Northern Ireland into the non-industrial Northern Ireland Civil Service.

Dr. Boyson

A comprehensive policy statement enunciating the principles underlying the Government's approach to the promotion of equal opportunity for all will be published later today. The trade unions have been fully consulted in its preparation.

The statement affirms our commitment to equal opportunity, on the basis of individual merit, and without regard to religion, sex or any other factor which should be irrelevant to the treatment or assessment of any individual. Appropriate monitoring arrangements are being put in place in respect of 1985 onwards.

Copies of the statement have been placed in the Library.
