HC Deb 04 December 1984 vol 69 c171W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services at what amount the £10 Christmas bonus for retirement pensioners and others should be set to keep it in line with inflation since its introduction.

Mr. Whitney

The Christmas bonus was introduced in 1972 but was not paid by the previous Administration in 1975 and 1976. To restore the value at which it was introduced in 1972, it would need to be increased to £40. To restore the value at which it was re-introduced in 1977, it would need to be increased to £19.
