HC Deb 03 December 1984 vol 69 cc78-9W
Mr. Chris Smith

asked. the Secretary of State for Social Services if 16-year-old school leavers in the year 1984–85 will have their supplementary benefit withdrawn if they refuse a place on the youth training scheme.

Mr. Whitney

If a claimant, without good reason, refuses a suitable youth training scheme placement, or leaves prematurely, supplementary benefit may be reduced for a period not exceeding six weeks under regulation 8 of the Supplementary Benefit (Requirements) Regulations. This provision applies to school leavers during the current year in the same way as to any other claimants.
