HC Deb 03 December 1984 vol 69 cc37-8W
Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Transport for what reason all traffic was required to leave the northbound carriageway of the M1 motorway at junction 6 between 22.00 hours and 23.30 hours on Tuesday 27 November; why no prior warning to slow down was given to avoid danger; and why no traffic management had been employed to reduce congestion and inconvenience to road users.

Mrs. Chalker

The northbound carriageway was closed between junctions 6 and 7 from 20.00 hours on Tuesday 27 November until 06.00 hours on Wednesday 28 Novenber to permit repairs to the carriageway and to central reserve drainage. There were advance warning signs from a point one mile south of junction 5 and a full traffic management system was in use from one mile south of junction 6 and along the diversionary route via the A405 to the M10.
