HC Deb 03 December 1984 vol 69 cc62-3W
Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment on how many occasions his Department has sought information from the Greater London council regarding the abolition of the council; and how many times such requests for information have been met with refusal since Royal Assent of the Local Government (Interim Provisions) Act 1984.

Sir George Young

We have sought information, under section 5 of the Act, on staffing matters and 1985–86 expenditure. On countless occasions, the Department has sought information about specific applications for consent under sections 7 to 9 where the data supplied by the GLC have been inadequate. In one case we have declined to take any further action towards reaching a decision on whether a consent could be given because, despite repeated requests, sufficient supporting information has not been provided.
