§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeI refer the hon. Member to the statement I gave to the House on 8 December 1983, at columns 477–79, in which I said that the Government had rejected a scheme of generic substitution as proposed in76W the Greenfield report on effective prescribing. We are however continuing to encourage doctors themselves to prescribe drugs of all kinds by generic name whenever possible. This recommendation was but one of fourteen. All the others were accepted when the report was published in February 1983.
