§ Mr. Normantonasked the Secretary of State for Transport if, in view of the wide range of standards of permissible tyre wear currently laid down by the various member states of the Community, he will take steps to institute the establishment of a common standards applicable to all vehicles driven in the Community.
§ Mrs. ChalkerNo. When our national regulations on tyre tread depth were changed in 1983, we considered all those requirements which could be justified in our national circumstances. My hon. Friend will know that there is considerable variation in standards from country to country across Europe.
