asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether the midlands links motorways feature in his plans for the long-term trunk road network of the United Kingdom.

Yes. Although like all structures they will need regular maintenance there are no indications that works involving major disruptions on these motorways will be necessary. Traffic demands in the area are so heavy however that I believe it necessary to consider adding to the total road capacity. Hence my proposals for a northern relief route around the west midlands conurbation, which have been the subject of a recent public consultation exercise.
