asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the Official Report a table expanding the figures for local authority current expenditure cited in Cmnd. 9143 (Vol. II, para 2.18.2), showing, for England. Scotland and Wales, separately, for each of the years 1978–79 to 1983–84 (i) cash expenditure, (ii) expenditure in cost terms and (iii) the gross domestic product deflator used in the calculations.

The latest figures for relevant current expenditure betweeen 1978–79 and 1983–84 are as follows:

with which he is not otherwise connected. The scheme may also be of help to someone who is self-employed, but who wishes to expand his businesses by incorporating and raising equity from outside investors.

I am not aware of any circumstances in which it would be possible actually to profit from an investment made under the scheme which subsequently proved worthless. But if my hon. Friend has a particular point in mind, perhaps he would write to me about it.
