Mr. Knox

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage of Government revenue was due to (a) direct and (b) indirect taxation in each financial year since 1980–81.

The table shows(a) direct taxes including North sea oil and capital taxes, (b) indirect taxes including national insurance surcharge, and (c) employees' and employers' national insurance contributions as percentages of general Government receipts.
