HC Deb 01 August 1984 vol 65 c280W
Mr. John Browne

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement about the provision of engineer officers in the armed forces.

Mr. Lee

A study into the recruitment, training and use of engineer officers in the armed forces has recently been carried out by Mr. Frodsham, formerly director general of the Engineering Employers' Federation. Copies of his report have been placed in the Libraries. The report covers a wide area and makes many important recommendations with far-reaching implications. These are currently under close consideration, but the use of the Royal Navy engineering college, Manadon, for the Navy and the Royal Military college of science for the Army and RAF has been agreed as the basis of this further consideration.
