§ Mr. ButcherIn the three years to 1983 United Kingdom visible trade with the Federal Republic of Germany was in deficit by £0.4 billion, £2.0 billion and £3.6 billion on the Overseas Trade Statistics basis. Our visible trade with Japan was in deficit by £1.6 billion, £2.0 billion and £2.6 billion on the same basis.
There were surpluses on invisible transactions with Japan of £0.5 billion and £0.7 billion in 1981 and 1982, the latest years for which figures are available. Data on invisible transactions with the Federal Republic of Germany are not compiled separately.
