HC Deb 01 August 1984 vol 65 c303W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Attorney-General what was the cost to public funds of the recent trial of Aircraftman Paul Davies at the Central Criminal Court.

The Attorney-General

The cost to public funds of an individual trial cannot be ascertained. It comprises numerous elements borne by different Government Departments. For the most part these are absorbed in the general running costs of the Department concerned. The only items capable of individual determination are the fees payable to prosecuting counsel and the defence lawyers. It is the policy of the Director not to publish details of fees paid to counsel in individual cases. A similar policy applies to payments from the legal aid fund.
