HC Deb 30 April 1984 vol 59 cc45-7W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the total sum needed in 1984–85 to settle a pay award to nurses and midwives of 6 per cent.; what percentage of total resource allocation this sum would represent; what is his estimate of the interest which would accrue in each month in order to back date the payment to the due date of 1 April; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I refer the hon. Member to my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister's reply to the hon. Member for Birkenhead on 25 April 1984 at column 484. Health authority cash limits were based on an assumption for pay awards in 1984–85 of 3 per cent.
