§ 18. Mr. Gwilym Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the latest estimate for local authority capital and revenue spending in Wales for 1983–84 and 1984–85; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsTotal revenue expenditure in 1983–84 is likely to be of the order of £1,413 million, approximately £16 million, or 1.2 per cent., in excess of the planned level of provision. Authorities' revenue budgets for the present financial year total £1,465 million, about £13 million, or 0.9 per cent. above the sum provided for in the RSG settlement.
As regards capital spending, information is at present only available for 1983–84. The latest forecast suggests that net capital expenditure will be about £315 million, which is approximately £60 million more than the original cash limit, and some £10 million in excess of the increased cash limit I announced last December.
