§ Mr. Rostasked the Secretary of State for Energy when he expects to launch the home energy audit advice and treatment scheme; how and by how much it will be financed; how it will be promoted; and who will be involved in its implementation.
§ Mr. Peter WalkerThe Home Energy Audit advice and treatment scheme is being developed by the HEAT company, which plans to test it in the autumn by means of a commercial pilot. The Energy Efficiency Office has commissioned the Building Research Establishment to develop an audit system—at a cost of some £150,000— which will be licensed to the company. In addition, the Energy Efficiency Office has agreed to pay up to 49 percent. of the company's costs up to a maximum payment of £59,000 to cover the development and testing of the scheme. The remainder of the finance for the company is being provided by non-Government backers. The Government expect that if the pilot is successful the scheme's non-Government backers will continue support to commercial viability.
