HC Deb 27 April 1984 vol 58 c631W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether for his Department's statistical purposes a holding includes all the farms belonging to one owner, whether corporate, partnership or individual, or whether each farm is regarded as a separate holding.

Mrs. Fenner

For the collection of agricultural statistics, a holding comprises land which is farmed as one unit, having regard to supplies of machinery, livestock, feedingstuffs and manpower, to the distance between any separate areas of land involved and to their type of farming. The definition is not dependent on the legal status of the occupier, on whether the occupier has other holdings farmed as one unit, or on whether the holding is owner-occupied or tenanted.
