§ Lord Henderson of Bromptonasked Her Majesty's Government:
To provide a breakdown of grants given by Department of Health and Social Security in 1982–83 totalling over £15 million to voluntary organisations (including, where appropriate, those 129WA concerned with children and young people) under the following heads—
stating under each head, the total of grants given and the number of voluntary organisations in receipt of these grants.
- Age, ageing, elderly
- Alcoholism
- Blind and visually handicapped
- Deaf, partially deaf and hard of hearing
- Disabled and handicapped
- Drug addiction and abuse
- Homeless
- Mentally handicapped
- Smoking
- Speech impairment
- Other specific conditions or diseases
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Lord Glenarthur)Many of the voluntary organisations who receive grants from the Department of Health and Social Security are involved in activities concerned with more than one of the groups listed in the noble Lord's Question. To list grants under the heads suggested would be misleading because it would not necessarily reflect the full extent of assistance to the groups listed. However, information about grants given to all voluntary organisations in 1982–83 is contained in the following tables.
