HC Deb 25 April 1984 vol 58 c481W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to regulate the practice and procedures of the strip searching of women by the police; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brittan

I will be required by clause 59 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Bill to issue a code of practice in connection with the detention, treatment and questioning of persons by the police. Special provision for the conduct of all searches of detained persons involving the removal of more than outer clothing is proposed in annex A of the fourth draft of the code which was published on 17 April. Copies have been placed in the Vote Office and the Library of the House.
