13. Mr. Nellist

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many officials in Her Majesty's embassy, Pretoria, are primarily concerned with matters connected with British investment in, and trade with, South Africa.

Mr. Rifkind

None. The director of trade promotion in South Africa is based at Johannesburg, where he is supported by three diplomatic service and three locally engaged commercial officers. In addition one diplomatic service and one locally engaged commercial officer are located at Cape Town and one locally engaged commercial officer at Durban.

37. Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representations he has received concerning the diplomatic implications for the United Kingdom of sporting and cultural visits to South Africa.

Mr. Whitney

Representations have been received from a number of quarters, including the United Nations Special Committee Against Apartheid and the Organisation of African Unity, which have made known their concern about the forthcoming English Rugby Football Union tour of South Africa.
