HC Deb 25 April 1984 vol 58 c493W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what estimate he has made of Welsh local authorities' planned expenditure and rates for 1984–85.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Welsh local authorities' claims for block grant show they plan to spend in aggregate £1,300 million in 1984–85. This is 19.6 million or 1.5 per cent. more than the sum of the individual authority total expenditure targets I set in this year's rate support grant report.

1984–85 general rate poundages range from 151.6p to 218.5p and domestic rate poundages from 133.4p to 200p, giving all-Wales average general and domestic rate poundages of 181.9p and 163.8p, respectively. The all-Wales average general and domestic rate poundages are 13.5p—8 per cent.-and 13.7p—9.1 per cent. —higher respectively than the all-Wales average general and domestic rate poundages for 1983–84.
