Dr. Godman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much money is spent each year in Scotland on the care of mentally ill patients; and what percentage of total National Health Service expenditure in Scotland this represents.

There is no explicit statutory right of the individual, whether handicapped or not, to further education; the duty of education authorities is to secure for their areas adequate and efficient provision of further education. The level of provision for the handicapped, including the mentally handicapped, varies among education authorities according to the way in which different authorities have decided to allocate their resources; it is not recorded centrally.
