HC Deb 25 April 1984 vol 58 cc482-3W
Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will state the value of disbursements due to El Salvador and Nicaragua under European developent fund V.

Mr. Raison

No disbursements from the European development fund are possible to either El Salvador or Nicaragua since neither country is a signatory to the Lomé convention. Between 1976 and 1982 some 24.95 million ecu (£14.7 million at current exchange rates) was provided to Nicaragua under the programme for the non-associated developing countries financed from the Community budget.

Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the projects for which loans were sought from the Inter-American Development Bank by El Salvador and Nicaragua during each of the last five years; what was the outcome; and how Her Majesty's Government instructed their representative at the preliminary European caucus to vote on each of these loan applications.

Mr. Raison

I refer the hon. Member to the reply given to this question by my hon. Friend the Member for Wycombe (Mr. Whitney) on 16 December 1983 at columns 609–10. The interim listing given for 1983 was unchanged at the end of the year.
