§ Mrs. ChalkerThe Noise Insulation Regulations 1975 provide for the insulation of eligible buildings where the use of new highways, including motorways, and certain altered highways, causes or is expected to cause noise at a level not less than 68dB(A) L10(18 hour). Insulation may also be provided against exceptional noise from road construction works.
The prescribed insulation work includes either the conversion of existing windows to double windows by the 515W installation of new inner windows, or their replacement by new double windows if this is essential, in accordance with the relevant specification.
§ Mr. Ernie Rossasked the Secretary of State for Transport why residents alongside the M42 in Warwickshire have been offered double glazing.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThe residents of 47 properties alongside the M42 motorway have been offered double glazing under the Noise Insulation Regulations 1975, in exercise either of the duty to offer such insulation where the predicted traffic noise level arising from the use of a new road as measured at a facade of a residential building is not less than 68 dBA, or of the discretionary power to provide insulation against exceptional noise from road construction works.
