HC Deb 13 April 1984 vol 58 cc390-1W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the financial penalty for producing non-quota sugar in the United Kingdom; and how much such sugar has been produced in each of the past three years.

Mr. MacGregor

The provisions applicable to the production of non-quota sugar in the United Kingdom are the same as those applying in the Community generally, which I explained in my reply to the hon. Member of 22 March at column 519. The amount of non-quota sugar produced in the United Kingdom in the last three years is as follows:

tonnes
1981–82 nil
1982–83 *274,172
1983–84 †nil
* Of which 80,000 tonnes were carried forward to 1983–84.
† Provisional.
