HC Deb 13 April 1984 vol 58 c445W
Mr. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what Government training opportunities in new technology skills are available in the southern region for young people and unemployed adults.

Mr. Peter Morrison

In the area covered by the Manpower Services Commission's London and the south east regions, at the beginning of April, there were 2,200 training opportunities in new technology skills available to unemployed adults through training opportunities scheme.

For young people, some 920 training places specialising in new technology skills were available under the youth training scheme at 27 information technology centres; 530 places are planned for a further 13 centres. All youth training scheme programmes are required to include an introduction to computer literacy and information technology.
