HC Deb 13 April 1984 vol 58 c455W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the detection rate for serious crimes by the Royal Ulster Constabulary; and how this compares with the previous five years.

Mr. Scott

Details of the Royal Ulster Constabulary's detection rates are published annually in the Chief constable's report to the police authority. The percentage of indictable offences cleared by the Royal Ulster Constabulary during 1983, together with corresponding figures for the previous five years, are as follows:

Per cent.
1983* 27.8
1982* 19.0
1981 26.9
1980 25.0
1979 20.0
1978 23.0
*The statistical basis for the calculations of these figures was revised in 1982.
