Mr. Speed

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the increase in expenditure, at constant prices, in the Royal Naval Reserve since April 1979 and the increase in numbers of active naval reservists over the same period.

Mr. Lee

In 1983–84 expenditure on Roayl Naval Reserve manpower was £1.9 million more at constant (1983–84) prices than in 1979–80. The increase in numbers in the Naval Volunteer Reserve Forces (the RNR, WRNR, RMR, and QARNNS(R)) over the same period is 358.
