HC Deb 13 April 1984 vol 58 c469W
Mr. Anderson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in view of the decision of the United States Government not to accept jurisdiction in the application filed before the International Court of Justice by the Government of Nicaragua in relation to the mining of certain of its ports, if he will take steps in the United Nations to clarify the jurisdiction of the court in such matters.

Mr. Whitney

Under article 36 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice it is for the court itself to decide on whether it has jurisdiction in any case submitted to it.
