HC Deb 13 April 1984 vol 58 cc428-9W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many local authorities in Wales have applied for byelaws to conserve fishing stocks by preventing netting; when were these applications made; what is his Department's response to these applications; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mellor

I have been asked to reply.

On 13 February Meirionnydd District Council submitted a draft byelaw to prohibit the placing of nets on the seashore for the prevention of dangers to users of the seashore. On 6 March Ynys Mon Borough Council sought information about the making of a similar byelaw. This proposal raises a number of complex issues but we hope shortly to be in a position to reply to the Councils concerned. When we have done so I shall write to the hon. Member.
