Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give for each year since 1970 the number of deaths and discharges among, and the number of beds occupied on 31 December by, patients receiving treatment under contractual arrangements with institutions outside the National Health Service in Wales; and if he will break down these figures into the categories of (a) medical, (b) surgical, (c) pre-convalescent and post-operative, (d) convalescent, (e) geriatric, (f) diseases of the chest, (g) maternity, (h) mental illness, (i) mental handicap, (j) rehabilitation, (k) terminal care and (l) others.

For the years since NHS reorganisation, total expenditure on contractual arrangements for patient care in Wales was as follows. From the information available within my Department, it is not possible to disaggregate this expenditure as the hon.. Member has requested. Figures for 1983–84 are not yet available.
