§ 53. Sir Paul Bryanasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will state what progress has been made in enforcement of the law relating to video piracy.
§ Mr. FletcherConsiderable progress has been made since the increase in penalties and strengthening of police powers introduced last July by the Copyright (Amendment) Act 1983. Trade sources estimate that the proportion of pirate video cassettes on the United Kingdom market has fallen from about 66 per cent. to less than 35 per cent. and the proportion appears still to be declining.
