HL Deb 12 April 1984 vol 450 c1322WA
Lord Stoddart of Swindon

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What will be the additional cost to the Central Electricity Generating Board of planning and designing a substitute advance gas cooled nuclear power station at Sizewell, if the public inquiry recommends against the building of a pressurised water reactor at that site.

The Earl of Avon

I understand that, as indicated in its evidence to the Sizewell B Public Inquiry, the Central Electricity Generating Board is undertaking certain limited design studies with a view to maintaining an option to build and obtain a licence for an advance gas cooled reactor.

That decision, and the expenditure on those studies, is a matter for the commercial judgment of the board.
