HC Deb 12 April 1984 vol 58 cc360-1W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what studies his Department is currently making of the possibility of achieving savings in expenditure on the repair and maintenance of service aircraft by handing over more of this work to private industry.

Mr. Lee

A continuing process of scrutiny is conducted on the scope for involving industry in the maintenance of service aircraft. Current considerations focus on refurbishments and major servicings, and engineering support at flying training stations. I expect to see further work transferred to industry as a result.
