HC Deb 12 April 1984 vol 58 c369W
Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how much of the multiple accommodation (a) in south Wales and (b) in Cardiff is checked regularly by his Department or housing inspectors to ensure that it is hygienic; and what percentage of the accommodation is not up to standard.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Under the Housing Acts it is the duty of local authorities to ensure that dwellings, including those in multiple accommodation, are fit for human habitation. They have wide powers to ensure that houses in multiple occupation are properly maintained, repaired, clean and not overcrowded. Information is not collected centrally on the number of inspections made or on the amount of accommodation not up to standard.
