HC Deb 12 April 1984 vol 58 c356W
Sir Anthony Kershaw

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what estimate he has formed of the likely cost of 15 per cent. value added tax on the cost of building extensions and refurbishments to buildings owned by his Department in each of the next five years.

Mr. Lee

An initial assessment suggests that the cost to the defence budget of the extension of value added tax to building alterations on MOD owned buildings will be of the order of £25 million in 1984–85 and £30 million a year thereafter.
