§ Mr. Pattie[pursuant to his reply, 27 March 1984, c. 104]: The total imports of defence equipment identified from the Customs and Excise tarriff for each of the past 10 years are shown in the following table. The figures have been calculated at 1980 price levels on the assumption that price movements of defence equipment imports are similar to those of imported manufactures as a whole (the only basis upon which the figures can be calculated at a constant price level without incurring disproportionate costs).
