HC Deb 11 April 1984 vol 58 c245W
Mr. Blair

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether any applications for grants towards the fabric of The Castle, Eden, near Peterlee have been received by his Department in the last five years; from whom the applications were submitted; and what was the outcome of any such applications including the total amounts of any grants made.

Mr. Macfarlane

The Castle, Eden, is a grade II* listed building dating from 1760 with a later gothic front. Its owner Mr. E. L. Cowie applied for a repair grant in 1979 and was given a grant of £70,000 towards eligible repair costs estimated in 1981 to total £140,000. In June last year Mr. Cowie applied for an increase in grant on which discussions continue.
