Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing for each year since 1954 United Kingdom production of sheepmeat, imports from and exports to the European Economic Community, and imports from and exports to the rest of the world, together with the amount of public money spent on supporting the United Kingdom industry.

Information on the United Kingdom production of sheepmeat—mutton and lamb—dating back to 1954 can be obtained from the "Annual Abstract of Statistics" published by HMSO. Copies are available in the Library of the House. In the most recent edition the relevant data are given in table 9.15 which covers the years 1972 to 1982.

Information on the quantities of sheepmeat imported into the United Kingdom since 1954 and exported since 1970—earlier years not being available—is as follows:
