HC Deb 11 April 1984 vol 58 c237W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether all new schools will be built to be accessible to wheelchair users.

Mr. Dunn

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment intends shortly to lay before Parliament an amendment to the Building Regulations to require specified provision for access by disabled persons to certain categories of building, including new schools. In respect of schools maintained by local education authorities, to which the Building Regulations do not apply, it is intended to include a similar requirement under the constructional standards of the Department of Education and Science.
