HC Deb 11 April 1984 vol 58 c248W
Mr. Simon Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many enveloping schemes submitted by local authorities for Exchequer contribution have been rejected by his Department; and how many schemes are still awaiting approval.

Sir George Young

Ten enveloping schemes have been rejected for Exchequer contribution. There are 11 schemes under scrutiny, some of which have required detailed discussions between my Department and the local authorities concerned. In addition, I shall soon be announcing decisions on a large group of schemes submitted as a block by Birmingham city council, following the change in funding arrangements for these schemes from the urban programme to the main local authority housing programme.
